In the Autumn term we had a World War II day, led by Mr Roberts. We dressed up as evacuees and had the chance to feel what it was like to be a child during the war. One of our first tasks was to check our list of equipment, ready for evacuation…

With most of the men away, everyone had to help during the war. We learned how to use a stirrup pump, so we could put out fires.

We heard an air raid siren, sat in an Anderson shelter and heard the bombers flying overhead. It was really noisy. We were glad to hear the ‘all clear’ signal. Luckily nobody was hurt!

We also learned how to put out an incendiary bomb with sand. It wouldn’t have been a good idea to use water on these – that would have made things worse!

In the afternoon we did lots of great activities, like finding information from WW2 posters, plotting incidents on a map, some drama, and even learning some Cockney rhyming slang.

We had a brilliant day, thank you Mr Roberts.
